Each week when I do my thorough cleaning of the house I dust under and around an ever growing shelf of magazines, along with the latest editions on my coffee table. I often think, would it not be easier to keep them all in one place, but then I fear that I would never read the new ones. Because, as we all know, out of sight is out of mind.
Therefore last week I decided it was time for a change. I wrote a list of all the magazines that we get and analyzed which ones we actually benefit from. I did not ask anybody else for their opinion, because I think that if certain magazines stop arriving at our mailbox they will never ever even be missed. Surely, I will find out soon enough. When the renewal time comes up I will decline, and hold my breath until a few months have passed. I am quite sure months will pass before anyone mentions them, and by then my point will have been proven.
As for the ever growing collection on the shelf, with the exception of the National Geographic and the National Geographic Adventurer they all have gone to the recycling bin. I feel lighter for these small changes, and recommend tackling this at your own home. Depending on how large, cluttered or messy your home is, it may be worth looking into getting help cleaning. There are sites available where you can look for cleaning services in your area and advertise the type of help that you need. Tidying up magazines may not require outside help, however, cleaning you entire house might.
